SCBS BOARD APPROVES

VOLUME LEVEL POLICY

There have been numerous complaints by audience members, management, and members of the Board of Directors that the Sonoma County Blues Society jam sessions are out of control and not enjoyable because of extreme volume levels. The numbers of people, both performers and audience members, who are willing return to the SCBS jam, have been directly and negatively impacted by this issue. It is the goal of the Board of Directors to attract more musicians and increase attendance to the weekly jam. To accomplish this, we must ensure that those who participate have a comfortable experience.

At the August 5th meeting, the Board of Directors voted on and approved a Volume Level Policy that will be implemented immediately. The Jam Master has full and complete charge of the sound level.  He/she will have a db meter to measure the sound level.  The range of acceptable volume is less than or between 80-90 db.  There can be short bursts of crescendo to 100 db but that level has to return to the 80-90 db range within a few seconds.

If this policy is not adhered to, the following measures will be taken:

(1) The Jam Master will warn the person(s) exceeding acceptable volume levels.

(2) If a second warning is required, it is final. The set will be ended and the entire stage will be required to get off, offenders as well as non-offenders.

This policy provides an opportunity for musicians to monitor and regulate their own volume levels and those of the musicians they are playing with. We ask for your help, so that the Jam Master won’t be put in the position of having to issue any second warnings. By working together, we can create a jam session that is respectful, enjoyable, making it desirable to more people to participate.

If any member of the SCBS has questions or concerns about this policy or the way it is implemented, please contact any member of the Board of Directors. Thank you for your help.

I want to thank all of you who went to Northbaymusic.com to see what was going on when the May 27 show was rained out. So many of you went to the website that it crashed for the very first time for exceeding it's bandwidth. We have taken steps so this won't happen again.
